This last Friday, we had a special guest Kari Baumann, she came to teach the class how to do makeup!  Kari was very informative and told us exactly what to do with each substance.  We focused on beauty makeup this time around, though I’m not saying we all looked beautiful afterwards.  Some were very good with the makeup.  Others… not so much.  (they couldn’t tell the difference between makeup and face paint).  And, of course, some of them were just downright scary. Scary will be in our next class in January 2016! Here are some photos to give you a good idea of what we did.  Sorry about the picture quality.

Drama Dragons Fall Party

On October 30, 2015, a unique group of individuals gathered together in Faith Presbyterian Church to play games, eat junk food, and crawl all over the furniture before lapsing into sugar-induced comas.

All right, that last part’s not very accurate, but we did have a great time hanging out.  We focused a lot on improv games, which were loads of fun, and we tried to guess each others’ costumes (that was harder than it may have seemed).

To give you a good idea, here are some pictures of the students’ costumes:

From left to right:  Thalia, Batman, Dirt, PJ’s, Steve Rogers, Pirate Girl, Princess Jasmine, and Helga.

From left to right:  Professor, Weird Al Yankovic, Koala, Cat Burglar, Minion Fox, Hat, Front-to-Back.

And some more craziness.

We are still open for registration, so if you feel like hanging out, acting, and learning, contact me at:

Phone: 253-279-8268.

Thanks much!

What The Students Do When I’m Not Watching

Hello, everybody!  This last Friday at Drama Dragons was quite interesting.  Here is some evidence:

(They did this to themselves)

Besides this hilarious addition to our class time, I’ve had a brilliant idea!

Have you heard of Tiffany’s roller skating in Puyallup?  Well, they’re offering a homeschool skate day on Wednesday, November 4 from 1pm – 3pm, and I’m going to be there!  For any of you homeschoolers who are interested, it’s $6.00 for two hours of skating, skate rental, mingling, and falling on our faces.  I will be there to talk (can you imagine me skating?) with adults and kids, so if you ever wanted to meet the “famous” Hally, see me there!

Stage Gryffins and Drama Dragons Update

Drama Dragons

Our first few weeks of Drama Dragons have been great.  We’ve played games, done interesting activities, and had a few discussions about Shakespeare.  The kids are getting to know each other, and we’re becoming one big, happy family.  On another note, there’s still room!  I’m inviting any students from the ages of 8-17 to come check us out!  Our next class will be on Friday the 9th at 1pm in Faith Presbyterian Church.  If you’re interested, contact me as soon as possible, so we can get you signed up and active!

Stage Gryffins

Stage Gryffins has been great fun the past few weeks.  We’ve done all sorts of activities, from learning the definition of ‘theatre’ to running around the room like crazy animals.  There is one problem, however.  We don’t have enough students!  Please, if your child is between the ages of 9-16, come and visit!  In order to do an early 2016 performance, we need more students!  Our next class will be Tuesday the 13th at 10am in Calvary Baptist Church.  I can’t stress enough the need for students.  If you’re interested in registering, please contact me, so we can get you ready to go!

Fall’s Update for Classes

Hello all Drama Dragons, Stage Gryffins, Performing Pixies, and New Students!

It has been a long hot summer, but September is fast approaching. That means only one thing: Drama Dragon classes! I am eagerly planning the next session for all my returning actors and have high hopes for many new students to join our Dragon family. I am pleased to announce I have two locations solidified and working on a third. I have many lessons, worksheets, games, scripts, and assistants ready to “play” with you.

General Information: There is a one-time supply fee of $35 for this session and I will provide all other needed materials. Weekly cost is $10 per student per class, so in September there will be three weeks of classes equaling $30 per student. If your child wants to enroll in an additional class (a different location) the cost would be $30 for the month at that location as well, without the supply fee. The tuition is due at the beginning of the month, you can pay by check, cash, and credit card for a 5% fee; however I do offer scholarships, payment options, and I am willing to work with you to have your child participate. I want all kids to have the opportunity to explore the wonderful realm of theatre. Drama Dragon t-shirts will again be available for sale (more information to come).

All age ranges are set as guidelines; there are always exceptions. I am willing to approve a student’s placement outside these guidelines based on ability and subject matter of the particular class. Reading fluency is not required, under the condition that the student will be given extra help at home to remember lines and blocking. Please feel free to ask me questions, discuss concerns, and make suggestions. This program has been evolving for over ten years, but I can best improve the experience for your child with your help. The skills, strategies, and personal growth will give each student a strong foundation for life.

Drama Dragons:

This class is for students 9 years of age and older; typically up to 17 or seniors in high school. The first few weeks of this session will be review of terminology, acting techniques, and an introduction to Shakespeare, before we begin play selection for the rest of the program. On Friday, September 11, 2015, the Drama Dragons will begin at 1 PM at Faith Presbyterian Church at 620 South Shirley St., Tacoma, WA, 98465 in room 117 on the lower level. Please have students bring excitement, a water bottle and a healthy snack as needed. Enter through the courtyard door located on the west side of the building. Class lets out at 3 PM. Please contact me if you will be picking your children up late.

Stage Gryffins:

A Few Gryffins 2015     SG_withText_042015

This class is for ages 8 to 16, and students will be working on basic acting techniques, stage etiquette, character development, and other essentials of a production. I have secured a space at the Calvary Baptist Church at 9010 320th Street S, Roy, WA 98580. The specific start date has NOT yet been decided, but class will begin the week of September 14, 2015. I need your help in deciding which day works best for your family. As a group, we can decide to either meet once or twice a week, which could allow the Gryffins to perform in either late winter or spring.

Performing Pixies:

I would like to offer this class again for ages 4 to 6. Students will read a story, discuss it, and then act it out, as well as participate in theatre games and other storytelling methods. Through these activities, children will learn about cooperation, following directions, self-expression, listening skills, and creativity. Sessions will run for an hour each for a minimum of eight weeks. At this time, I do not yet have a location or start date. If your church, co-op, or other community group is looking for a group activity for these ages, I can customize the class to suit the need. Please let me know if you or someone you know is interested in this class.

Theatre Thunderbirds: I am always open to starting a new branch, especially for ages 6 to 12. I would love to teach classes geared towards helping elementary-level students explore theatre. Students would work on one-acts, monologues, short stories, and other short works to be presented through a showcase performance. Sessions would run for ninety minutes each for a minimum of eight weeks. Since this class is still under development, I do not have a location or start date yet. As with Performing Pixies, if your church, co-op, or other community group is looking for a group activity for this age range, please let me know.

Feel free to share any information about these classes with your family, friends, and community. I can be reached via email, text, or The Drama Dragons’ website for any questions, comments, or concerns. I am so proud of the growth The Drama Dragons has made in the past year, and I am eager to welcome new Dragons, Pixies, Gryffins, and even Thunderbirds to the family.

A Few Gryffins 2015As of today I closed my Pixie & Gryffin classes until September. I want to say thank you to the parents and students that I have spent the last few months with, it was so nice to have met all of you. I love being able to share some of the wonders that drama and theatre can bring to young people, these techniques can be used for a lifetime. Yes we play games, yes I give homework, yes we all have fun but this is the best way to learn, in my opinion. I hope to see you all very soon, please feel free to contact me with questions, comments or just to say “Hello”, I love hearing from you.
