The Adventures of Tom Sawyer… Coming Soon

As a class field trip this past Friday, the Drama Dragons went to see Beauty and the Beast, honoring their performance of this same play last spring.  Though we were sadly missing a couple actors, it was a great movie and a great time.

In addition, the details of the performance have been hashed out. It is a joint production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Drama Dragons) and Cinderella (Stage Centaurs), consecutively.  The details are as follows:

Puget Sound Christian Center, 4020 S. 56th St., Tacoma, WA 98409

June 9, 2017 – 7:30pm

June 10, 2017 – 7:00pm

Tickets are $5.00 at pre-sale, and $7.00 at the door.  These can be purchased from the actors.

For those of you who would like to advertise, here is a PDF of some fliers we’ve devised:  Tom Sawyer Fliers.  You can print them out and use them as you wish (also, you might have to wait a minute or so for them to load, depending on your device).

We hope to see you there!

Updates

The Drama Dragons have continued their blocking over the past few weeks, and here are some pictures:

In addition, Performing Pixies is in need of more students!  If you know anyone with children from the ages of 5-10, please come try out a class!  If you’re not sure you can commit to a full month, don’t stress about paying for the full month.  If you can only make it to a couple classes a month, the cost is $15 per.  Here are some pictures of our rainbow fish adventures and us creating characters with hats:

Performing Pixies!

At the Performing Pixies’ first class last Friday, we read a short story dramatically and then acted it out from memory.  Following that, we played a great game called Whoosh.  It was very fun to see everybody get into the game and play together.  Afterward, we did a small craft project and made little hedgehogs.  The hedgehogs were quite interesting and showed each person’s special brand of creativity.  I had a good time and I hope everybody else is also looking forward to the next class.

Performing Pixies Starts This Friday!

Performing Pixies is almost here!  If you have creative, homeschooled children from the ages of  5 – 10 who are interested in art, drama, or just having fun, come to Faith Presbyterian Church, 620 South Shirley St. Tacoma, WA 98465 on March 3 (this Friday) from 11:00am – 12:30pm and join us for our first Pixies class!

Please contact me if you have questions about this program and what it entails.  I will be happy to answer anything you ask!  I hope to see you there!

We’re Reading Scripts

Now that we are in the New Year, the Drama Dragons have begun reading scripts.  We hope to have chosen one to perform by the end of the month.  So far, we have read an original script, Out in the Woods, which will be performed at Summer Dragons, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  The class had quite a fun time attempting to speak in Southern accents.

Stage Centaurs

Over the past couple of weeks, the Centaurs have been working on play selection. We decided that we would produce a Cinderella story, but we weren’t sure which version we wanted to do, as the “Cinderella Story” exists in many different cultures. We spent some time learning about the history of Cinderella, finding out that the earliest Cinderella story dates back as far as ancient Egypt! We’ve read several scripts now and soon we will decide which one we will use.  Here’s a couple pictures of us reading scripts:

Christmas Party

The Drama Dragons Christmas party went great!  We started off by playing a fun game that challenged our direction-giving skills.  Two people sat back-to-back, and one person had to describe a picture while the other person drew it.  It was quite entertaining to see some of the results.  We listened to Jacob theatrically read a twisted Christmas story called “Santa’s Twin.”  When everyone had arrived, we ate potluck junk food and did a Secret Elf gift exchange.  Below are some pictures of the events.

Stage Centaurs

We had a lot of fun at our Centaurs Christmas party!  We played Christmas music while creating snowglobes out of foam snowmen, markers, and plates, then we had Mr. Bond come and read the story “A Cajun Christmas” in a Cajun accent. After the story, we exchanged presents in our white elephant. Hally brought beautiful ornaments for everybody. Finally, we ate snacks and desserts while exchanging Christmas jokes. It was a good time, and we look forward to seeing our Centaurs in class in January.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!  See you in 2017!

Upcoming Performances

Hello and Merry Christmas!  I know… it’s a bit early, but hey… we have to get in the mood somehow.

Anyway, the Drama Dragons have been working on blocking the two student-written scenes from our scene-writing unit that were chosen several weeks ago, and we are currently preparing for an unofficial performance in front of the rest of the class, so we can decide on a pre-show for Spring’s play.

On another note, several of the students are in other performances during this season.  If any of you Drama Dragons fans are interested, feel free to show up at any of these performances (some have costs and some don’t, so be forewarned).
